France 2025 - Day 7 / Biarritz

Steps today: 17 591 / 11.6 km

Today it was off to the beach - Biarritz. The weather predicted MAYBE a teeny bit of rain in the morning so we brought the umbrellas along just in case we had bad luck, but thankfully we never needed them.

Very easy to get to Biarritz from Bayonne: about 30 minutes by bus that passes every 10 minutes. Could not be simpler. We therefore took our time again this morning and headed out just before 9AM. Breakfast, then hopped on the bus.

My croissant is giving me the finger! ha!

The bus was SO smooth and comfortable! Big wide windows all over, even down by your feet although it doesn't show in the picture. There is mood lighting, and even fake hardwood floors. I was very impressed.

It was exciting to see the Ocean. Ok, technically it's the Bay of Biscay, but for me it was the Atlantic Ocean. When arrived the weather was overcast and the beach was pretty empty, but this would change later! For now, it was all surfers.

The topography was breathtaking!

And nestled in the crags was a beautiful café! I don't think there could have been a better spot for a drink.

The sky was starting to clear out, and it was getting hot in the sun. The water was only about 15ºC, but many brave souls were out swimming.

Next was lunch in the Fisherman's Village...  no shade so it was risky since the sun was coming out, but we were ok.

Next we toured the town, I regret not taking more pictures - it felt like a typical resort town at the time with lots of shops and restaurants, so I wasn't motivated the get the camera out that much compared to the beautiful nature scenes, but in hindsight I regret it. I have one.

We wanted to visit the Cathedral but it was closed for renovations.  All there was to see was an altar to the Pope.

We went back to the main beach after this, but the skies were practically cleared out by now so it wasn't long before we were searching for cool drinks in the shade.

The warmer (hotter) weather was brining people out! Naturally. This is a beach after all! It must be nuts in summer.

The atmosphere was so nice, we decided to stay for supper - plus back in Bayonne knowing many places were closed until 7:30PM it made more sense to stay.

We found a shady spot that served crêpes which Frank had been craving all week!

We were back in Bayonne a little after 6PM and lingered around a bit for a drink... or two.

After this, back to the room to pack...  moving on again tomorrow nice and early at 7AM.
