France 2025 - Day 10 / Carcassonne & Toulouse

Steps today: 24 631 / 16.24 km

Carcassonne! I've been wanting to visit this medieval walled city for YEARS! Finally today was the day, and we had blue skies to boot.

We arrived a little after 9:30AM, and following my lesson learned from yesterday, stopped for a coffee in the first square we found!

We continued onwards, a finally the city appeared in the distance.

It was really impressive and the blue skies helped a lot with the views

As to what it was like inside the walls... well... I should have known.  It's ALL tourists and shopping. It reminded me of San Gimignano or Bellagio in that way, and I bet Mont St Michel will be the same (loose plans to visit in 2026).  It sort of makes me not want to go.

So, I did my best to shoot around the tourists and souvenir shops and focus on the city itself.

We visited the Church of St Nazaire which was as predictably beautiful as all the others

Of course, the requisite drink-stop while the terrasses were still somewhat empty before lunch.

And then lunch itself, which was delicious!

Around 2PM we decided that was enough and started to return to Toulouse, but we stopped to visit the nearby cemetery first. WOW! it was ah-maze-ing!!!!  More interesting and captivating to me than the medieval city. All the ceramics were fascinating, and the children's section was particularly poignant.

On the way back to the train station, we stopped for more refreshments....

And we were back in Toulouse by about 5:30.

In Toulouse, we explored the Jardins des Plantes which was much nicer than the one in Montauban yesterday - perhaps the blue skies had a bit to do with it.

It was so pleasant, we didn't reach Place du Capitole for supper again until after 7PM.  Finding a place to eat was a little Goldilocks experience, but we finally settled on a great place.

My wine was so good, the weather was so perfect, and I was in such a good mood that I didn't want it to end! I decided to hunker down and order more wine and a cheese plate. It was Huge!

By 8:15PM, Frank was a gonner. So fed up that he could not even finish his dessert! So I sent him back to the room LOL.

The sun is out until 9PM, and the room was about 10 minutes away in a straight line, so I lingered as long as I could before aiming to make it back before dark.  It was a great day!
