Switzerland 2025 - Day 7 / Zermatt and Brig

Steps today: 20 287 / 13.38 km

On a whim, we decided to add Zermatt to our itinerary, about 2.5 hours away.  Normally it's a train ride all the way, but there was some construction on the rails and part of the journey was by replacement bus. It was very comfortable and there was a direct one that made fewer stops than the train would have and so it shaved about 15 minutes off the trek.

Hello again, Matterhorn!

We arrived around 10AM and it was COLD! The sun only reached down into the valley about an hour later so it was gloves on and hoods up for a while.

Once the sun reached down to us, it was very pleasant. We didn't do much - too expensive to go up to the Gornergrat when we've done it twice before - so we just enjoyed strolling around the town.  Lots of construction going on there!

After our walk, we had lunch - it was warm enough by then to sit outside.

And then that was it, by about 1:30 we started heading back. Train from Zermatt to Täsch, then bus to Visp, 2 trains back to Interlaken, then either bus or train to our home base in Wilderswil.  Sounds like a complicated journey but it really isn't. It's all extremely easy to navigate and very efficient.

When we sat down in the bus in Täsch, that's when I realized I didn't have my backback! Ah well, it finally happened.  I am SO NOT USED to travelling with a backpack that I have almost left it behind many times...  well, today was the day; it was gone for good.  If there had been anything important in there I would have gone back for it, but there wasn't and quite frankly I was pretty sure I would lose it again! It's been in a drawer for 10 years slowly dying and I even forgot I had it. My cousin graciously called the restaurant where I thought I left it to try and get it back - he really made a big effort! but to no avail...  it's ok; I won't miss it.  The only reason I even bothered to bring it was to carry extra hats and scarves and mitts for the days we'd be up in the mountains, and we never even needed to do that! I hope whoever "inherited" it appreciates it. (and the spare pair of socks and underwear inside!)

We decided on a little detour to Brig on the way home to break up the monotony of journey. Cute little town.  We didn't stay too long, a little over an hour - just enough for a nice stroll and an Aperol Spritz!

Supper was back in Interlaken around 6. A little salad to get the veggies in, and a simple cheese sandwich. Perfect
