A little further afield today to get to Bettmeralp - where one goes to visit the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps.  The journey was a little under 2 hours.
The first leg (after the train journey to get here) brings you up to the car-free village about 2000m up. Beautiful views!  We installed ourselves at café with killer vistas and I had my dose of Aperol Spritz for the day.
Leg 2 is supposed to be the cable car from here in Bettmeralp up to Bettmerhorn, but we screwed up.
We were just not following our instincts! On our way to the cable car, we got side tracked by directions to a ski lift that brings you up to Wurzenbord instead - normally where one starts mountain biking.
We ignored ALL THE SIGNS that we were doing something wrong: it didn't say Betterhorn, it was deserted, it was rough terrain to get to it, the only other group of people were going up with their bikes...  most obvious of all: it was a ski lift and not a cable car!!
As soon as we got off at the top and looked around, we knew we messed up but the ski lift was closed and we couldn't get back down; the only way was to hike and it was great!  It was about an hour.
Bonus: you could see the Matterhorn from here! I was not expecting that.
Back down to the bottom, we started up again and took the right lift up this time! First stop was lunch and I somehow got it into my head that this was a rotating restaurant but it wasn't, it was a 360º cafeteria.  Was still very good minus the lack of table service.
Finally after lunch we made it to our goal
I wanted to recrate this picture of my grandparents, but we didn't quite make it to the exact same spot.
We tried a selfie:
