(light blue = on foot / dark blue = bus, metro, train etc)
We switched home bases today and for the next 6 nights we are in Florence. We’ve been twice before on day trips and we both agree that a day does not do Florence justice!
In other news, Facebook decided I can no longer update pictures. No idea why! Just like that, the uploads fail. I now have to update via Instagram then share to FB, but all pictures all have to be the same dimensions and that annoys me. UGH, I am so DONE with tech for today!
We had a full day. Arrived at 11 so room wasn't ready so we headed out to explore the city – we can see the Duomo Bell Tower from the hotel – it’s about a 15 minute walk away. We didn’t go inside… SO MANY PEOPLE!! We’ll go in some other time, but we’ve seen it before so there is no pressure.
Stopped for drinks at the Piazza della Signoria and admired the fake David. I saw the real David in 2003, the line-ups today looked insane so I doubt I will see him again on this trip! Italy is CROW-DED!
We crossed the Ponte Vecchio and did some window shopping among all the jewellery stores... and wrestled through the crowds!
Visited the Pitti Palace which we missed on both previous visits… the line looked long here too, but it moved so we took the plunge; turns out it was free today! What luck! Perhaps that's why there was a line?
It was beautiful, hard to narrow it down to just a few pictures.
After the Palace we explored the Boboli Gardens, strolled around aimlessly and then rested for a while so Frank could nap on a bench – his cold his still hanging on.
These 2 made me laugh! Same guy?
Even more strolling around town after that, and then ended up back in Piazza de la Signoria for supper where we are pretty sure we fell into a tourist trap because they added the tax on the bill… normally on the bill they indicate how much of your bill was the tax, it’s never an extra charge. On top of that, he wanted a tip – which unless specifically indicated is supposed to be included too. We did not leave one. My meal was delicious however!
After this, back to the hotel to unpack and now I need to COLLAPSE.
