Steps today: 17 287. I’m really surprised. I was on the train and metro a lot today, and I did escape into the bus once to seek shelter from the heat, but I thought I’d at least hit 20K! Ugh, I hate heat.
This morning I went to Reims and it was great. My goal was to visit the cathedral and I was not disappointed. It’s stunning!
The rest of the city was cute; I enjoyed walking around and seeing the main sights.
Of course, since I was in the Champagne region of France, I had to stop for a glass of champagne!!
Lunch was very enjoyable outdoors
I arrived back in Paris at 3PM and headed straight to the Marmottan Monet Museum. It was nice and air conditioned in there!! Ahhhh. The audio guide wasn’t great; the narrator wasn’t speaking fast enough for me and felt like I was always 5 paintings ahead! Still, it was a nice exhibit.
After this, since I was in (nearish) that part of town, I thought I’d visit the Jardin d'Acclimatation in the Bois de Boulogne. It’s a family park with lots of kiddy activities, but also has nice walking trails and offers a better view of the Louis Vitton Foundation building than from the street. I missed it last year and it wasn’t really a priority for this trip but I felt good outside so I decided to walk to it… then I ran out of shade! ugh. I took a bus the rest of the way, but when I got there the cash ticket office was closed and I was already SO HOT I thought more outside time would not be fun so I turned back. Also in that same area is a restaurant recommended to me by a colleague however it was closed until 7PM… but even if it wasn’t, I would have skipped it because of the construction zone right in front! Too bad.
I had supper in a Brasserie near the Arc de Triomphe a little earlier than usual just to get out of the heat!
I figured by the time I was done, it would have cooled down a bit so I could walk to the Eiffel Tower and that’s just what I did. I wandered around a bit, but it was SO CROWDED I didn’t feel like sticking around.
Too early to call it quits yet, I went for a nightcap. I asked if they have Sauternes, they didn’t but the waiter suggested Montbazillac. It was great!
I tried a few night shots on the way back to the room but they are terrible; I wasn’t patient enough to fiddle with the camera settings. I find I have been really lazy about this on this trip.
Here are more random shots of my day:
This is going to ruin your tour!
