Japan 2026 - Day 13 / Osaka

Steps today: 18 194 / 12 km

We started the day with a visit to Shitenno-ji Temple which is one of the oldest in Japan, along with the surrounding cemetery and various shrines.

Next was a walk though Kawazokoike Park where I tried to get pictures of the Wake Bridge with no high rises behind it! Not easy.

And then a highlight for me: The Harukas Observatory.
300m high in the sky on the 60th floor of Japan's second tallest building.

The views were spectacular! I just can't get over the size of the city!

Best of all, they had a beautiful café that actually served wine!  I love drinks with a view.

Back down in Tennoji Park, there was a German Festival on. It looked great but the line-ups for food were prohibitive for us, too bad.  Frank did manage to get an ice cream cone!

So, we decided to head back to the Umeda District and find a place for lunch there.  We ended up at the Westin and had club sandwiches, it was very nice!

We wanted to visit the Umeda Sky Building Observatory, but when we spotted what we suspected was the line-up we passed.

We wandered around in the station and buildings in the area... it's really something to experience. Commerce EVERYWHERE. not just 1 department store, but one with over 10 stories next to 3 more! Pedestrian bridges and tunnels link it all together and the energy is almost frantic or manic!

Frank said it best: "It's like we're in a washing machine" Perfect image.

We ended up on the 10th floor of this department store, and check out the view from the bathroom overlooking the train station.

We stopped for dessert where I finally got around to having something with Strawberries. Japan is world renowned for having the best strawberries so it was about time.

I had to sign my name to the waitlist...  I found the image so funny!

It started to rain, so I wanted to go back to Peacock Alley to wait it out...  where better? But then I changed my mind and we went to the bar at the Hotel Intercontinental instead.

It was on the 20th floor so offered nice views too, but nothing could beat the fantastic vibe of P.A.

Yeah! Aperol Spritz!!!

I have no recollection of what we did for supper, so it was probably something unremarkable.

This leads me to a tangent about food.  Many many many restaurants have theses plasticized food displays instead of menus. Clever!  Sadly it didn't quite help Frank overcome his aversion to the food in general, but if nothing else it makes for interesting pictures!
